My upcoming research will focus on three topics dear to my wonky heart: Data Monetization, DataOps, and the On-Prem-vs.-Cloud Debate. My 2016 Research Agenda:
Monetizing Data: Who’s Doing It Right (Now) – September, 2016
Managed data provide intelligent insight. But true data pioneers look beyond data as an insight-driving commodity, and see opportunity to generate new revenue. This research note will show how innovative enterprises have adopted best practices to monetize their data.
A DataOps Primer – October/November, 2016
In this research piece, I will define and outline a practical approach for adopting a new DataOps model in the enterprise, as well as provide an overview of different functional roles and responsibilities, and examine how data-integration, data-prep, and advanced analytics technologies can support DataOps objectives.
In the Cloud, On-Prem, or Somewhere In-Between: What to Consider When You’re Considering Where to Prep Your Data – December, 2016
Technology vendors promise agile data prep, performed ad hoc, perhaps on-premise, perhaps in the cloud, or perhaps straddling both in-house data warehouses and cloud-based sources. In this research piece, I will identify key decision criteria and benchmark metrics for assessing the data-prep cloud vs. on-prem vs. hybrid question.
Want in? Ping me and let’s talk.
And coming soon: Migration, Migration, Migration! In January I’ll take a look at a rather practical enterprise data question: What do I need to know when I move my enterprise from a traditional data-prep model (lots of analysts, centralized IT control) to an agile self-service model (empowered business-stakeholder data consumers, decentralized data workflows, ad-hoc querying, etc.)?
