In Blue Hill Research’s inaugural Global Telecom Expense Management (TEM) Vendor Landscape, we seek to identify the key vendors that large global enterprises should consider as they look for help in managing their enterprise telecom and mobility deployments from an inventory, expense, and technical perspective.
This report was created based on an observed lack of recent reports that accurately listed vendors capable of supporting global TEM on a consistent basis, or that accurately listed vendors that were actively pursuing TEM business, either on a stand-alone basis or as part of a larger IT outsourcing initiative.
Gartner has not written a Magic Quadrant for Telecom Expense Management since March 29, 2012. In this document, Gartner listed the following vendors: Accenture, Anatole, Asentinel, Avotus, Consotel, CSC, Dimension Data, Econocom, Ezwim, IBM, MDSL, Memobox, Movero, Orange Business Services, Pinnacle, Symphony Teleca, Tangoe, Telefonica, Telesoft, TNX, Veramark, Vodafone Global Enterprise, and WidePoint.
Of these, Blue Hill notes that over half of these vendors no longer pursue standalone Telecom Expense Management business, or lack the footprint and go-to-market interest in true global technology spend dispersed across multiple continents. Legacy vendors who do not currently identify as TEM providers, are not consistently winning standalone global TEM deals in 2016, or have been acquired or rolled up into other enterprises include: Accenture, Anatole, Consotel, CSC, Econocom, Memobox, Movero, Orange Business Services, Pinnacle, Symphony Teleca, Telefonica, TNX, Veramark, and Vodafone Global Enterprise.
In addition to consolidation and exits from market leaders, the market itself has transformed from telecom expense management to more holistic technology management, as global vendors are increasingly asked to manage cloud, Internet of Things, traditional IT spend categories such as server and software licenses, and even non-IT spend such as utilities.
In short, companies making decisions based on the last Magic Quadrant or related research are extremely outdated in selecting a TEM vendor that is active and has a global reach. To ensure that the vendors profiled are actively pursuing TEM on a global scale, Blue Hill required that vendors provide active references and new client wins from over the past 12 months to qualify for this report.
