IBM Announces Watson IoT Platform Updates, Successes, and New Watson IoT Global HQ

On October 4, IBM announced updates to its Watson IoT offering, as well as several key customer wins, and a $200 million investment to create the Watson IoT Global Headquarters in Munich, Germany – IBM’s largest European investment in two decades. With the IoT Global HQ, opening in 2017, IBM will introduce “Cognitive IoT Collaboratories” where clients and partners can test proof of concepts and new business models based on the Watson IoT platform.

Watson IoT platform updates include blockchain, cognition, and security improvements. IBM also announced that the platform hit 6,000 clients – up from 4,000 in 2015. The platform will likely continue to gain traction after these enhancements, especially in the manufacturing, supply chain, and healthcare verticals, as well as in the German and European markets.
