Spreadsheets may be cheap and ubiquitous, compared to other GRC solutions, but those benefits can mask risks and inefficiencies. And, making the pitch for a centralized technology solution brings with it the difficult task of justifying the move away from what is, essentially, a free tool.

Blue Hill in the News: Processor.com

www.processor.comProcessor.com published a report on 3D printing technology on May 2, which is entitled “What You Need To Know About 3D Printing”. In the article, Processor features an interview with Blue Hill Research Analyst James Haight on how 3D printing will influence the enterprise IT department.

Realize that if your enterprise isn’t prepared for the new wave of 3D printing tech, you have time to determine the best way to integrate it into the workflow of your end users or behind the scenes in your computer room. Half of all 3D printed material is used for prototypes, and it’s only in the past five years we’ve seen what Vicari calls “direct pro- duction of end use parts.”

“The real challenge is just future-proofing for flexibility because we don’t know what the world’s going to be,” says James Haight, research analyst at Blue Hill Research, “but in your next implementation, you should probably have something that has an eye toward this.”

Blue Hill in the News: Law Technology News

LTN_logo_1Law Technology News published an article on April 30, entitled “EU Signing Off on E-Signatures”, looking into the EU’s new regulation of electronic signatures. In the article, Law Technology features Blue Hill Principal Analyst David Houlihan’s opinions on whether the new regulation would benefit legal technology vendors, like DocuSign,  Adobe System Inc, and TrustWeaver.

The new regulation does not favor a specific technology, according to Logue, and several vendors have lobbied for business, he says.

Vendors such as San Francisco-based DocuSignAdobe System Inc. and Stockholm-based TrustWeaver may benefit from the EU regulation, according to David Houlihan, principal analyst at Boston-based Blue Hill Research.

These companies all compete on the concept of “cross-jurisdiction compliance and risk mitigation for e-signatures,” said Houlihan.

bisoftwareinsightBI Software Insight published an article, entitled “Why Data Without Analytics Is Meaningless” on April 25th. The article is a guest blog from Blue Hill Research Analyst James Haight. In the blog, James recognizes the appetite for analytics tools to effectively analyze ”big data”. He forecasts that the future of BI is going from “big data” to “big data analytics”.

‘Big data’ as a buzzword has captured just as much attention as any.

For the most part this attention is well deserved, but I’m afraid that in paying so much attention to big data we may be leaving out the most important part: analytics.
